Accessibility statement

We want every family to be able to use cdpap.nyc, including people who are blind or have low vision, are deaf or hard of hearing, or have motor, cognitive or other disabilities.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we follow WCAG 2.2 Level AA where we can. These are the guidelines most widely used to measure website accessibility.

What we do

  • Every page is checked with automated accessibility testing tools, in English and Spanish.
  • The whole site can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “skip to content” link.
  • Pages work on phones and when zoomed in to 400 percent, without content being cut off.
  • Text and buttons meet color contrast requirements. Color is never the only way information is shown.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Links and buttons have names that make sense out of context.
  • Form fields have labels. Errors are announced to screen readers, explained in plain words and shown in the page’s language.
  • Each page is marked as English or Spanish so screen readers use the right pronunciation.
  • We avoid flashing content and automatic videos, and we respect the “reduce motion” setting on your device.

Known limits

  • Some pages link to websites run by others, such as New York State, PPL and other organizations, including PDF documents. We do not control how accessible those sites and files are.
  • On very small screens, some wide tables scroll sideways. You can reach them with the keyboard and scroll with the arrow keys.
